Save & Publish
Understand the difference between saving a draft and publishing a form.
Draft vs Published
Every form exists in one of two states:
- Draft — the form is saved but not accessible to respondents. Only team members with access can view and edit it.
- Published — the form is live and accessible via its public URL. Respondents can submit responses.
Click Save to save your current changes as a draft without affecting the live version. Click Publish to save and make the form live (or update the live version if already published).
Warning: Editing and saving a form that is already published will create a new draft. The live version is only updated when you click Publish. This prevents half-finished edits from accidentally reaching respondents.
Auto-save
The builder automatically saves a local draft every 30 seconds and whenever you navigate away. A "Saving..." indicator appears briefly in the toolbar. This protects against accidental data loss but does not publish changes.
Version History
Every time you publish, a new version is recorded in the form's version history. Open Form Settings → Version History to see a timeline of all published versions with timestamps and the publishing user's name. You can restore any previous version as the current draft.
Unpublishing
To take a form offline, open Form Settings → Status and click Unpublish. The form URL will return a 404 and respondents will no longer be able to submit responses. Existing submission data is retained.
